Hypnotherapy & Hypnosis, what is it and how does it work?

Las Vegas Life CoachHypnosis and Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis is a name or title given to a variety of normal psychological processes that occur within human experience. The various phenomena of these processes are then utilized to create a change in a persons Attitudes, Beliefs or Behaviors.

Hypnotherapy is a form of systematic methods of inducing Hypnosis, and conducting therapy with a specific purpose (usually creating or generating change).

Hypnosis encompasses such a wide variety of different forms of modalities of therapy and psychological processes, that it is still not possible to get a consensus of agreement to a theory of how or why it works. One of the prime benefits of Hypnosis is that many of the phenomena associated with it, (results) seem to be produced with very little conscious effort by the client.

So what does hypnosis feel like?

The experience of Hypnosis is somewhat subjective, and depends greatly on which psychological processes a therapist is using at the time. Typically the Induction phase of Hypnosis is created by creating mental and physical relaxation, which changes brainwave activity. This is experienced as a very relaxing, almost mentally drifting away sensation, with a reduced awareness of your body, very similar to meditation. The relaxed physical and mental state of hypnosis causes either a dulled awareness or at times a super focused awareness (again depending on which process is occurring at any time).
So hypnosis feels very comfortable to us, in fact we go into a state of hypnosis all the time.  Examples include:

..... Reading, turning the page and forgetting what you have just read
.....
Driving and arriving somewhere having forgotten the trip
.....
Talking out loud when concentrating
.....
Day-dreaming

Therapist who use Hypnosis as part of their therapy, usually aim to have the experience be very relaxing for the client. Often using it as a form of stress reduction, a time and place for the client to just drift off and relax while they are given suggestions. Others, such as you might find with Mindfit's Life Coaching, use the experience to have the client gain insight through increased awareness. A Stage Hypnotist might have their 'guest' run about singing and dancing like Elvis. So what does Hypnosis feel like? It feels very relaxing to start, and then can be as varied as trying to explain "what did your day feel like"?

What can Hypnosis be used for?

Hypnotherapy is generally used to change or create Attitudes, Beliefs and Behaviors, so covers a wide variety of issues and situations. Hypnosis deals in the realm of the Sub Conscious mind which is defined as anything not in your conscious awareness at any point in time. For example you are forming the sounds of the words that you are reading with your sub conscious mind. You are automatically (or Sub Consciously) recognizing each letter, and the word it forms, then finding a reference within your experience to form meaning from what you are reading. As these words form meaning for you, you might hear them in your mind and become for that moment consciously aware of what is otherwise bits of light from a computer screen.

It is often said that the subconscious mind is like a computer.  It does not know right or wrong,  good or bad - it just runs programs.  The programs (behaviors/beliefs/attitudes) come from many sources but perhaps the most common source is by what you 'think'. It is generally accepted by Subconscious Mind therapists that subconscious wants to give you what you want. It knows what you want by the kinds and types of thoughts you have. HOWEVER, most of the time our thoughts are random and negative, often we think about what we don't want - rather than what we do want. The subconscious then goes about creating our thoughts, feelings, beliefs and attitudes, based on our automatic and often unconscious thinking. (Remember you are thinking ALL the time, but we seldom pay attention to what we are thinking)

Hypnosis allows for quick change by focusing our minds on what we want, and communicating that to the subconscious in a way that it understands AND in a way that is accessible to the unconscious mind. Thinking of your subconscious like a computer again. The mind will only run the programs that you have. You may want to adopt a different belief attitude or behavior but until you actually install a new program you will often fail. It is exactly like you wanting to use the computer to create a database, but you only have software for a word processor. You have great intentions, you know what you want, but the computer won't do it for you. Hypnosis is alot like installing new programs that you want to have rather than the ones that have been put in there but accident, society, experience or other people.
